Karl Taylor Cup 5 Man BLIZZARDS Fight to the death

5 Dec 2021 by Marcel Mavronicholas

After Tuesday’s narrow league defeat at London Patriot by a depleted BLIZZARDS side 67-63 where Gavin Frecklington’s haul of 28pts was just not quite good enough.
On Sunday, always a bad day for turnouts, only five made tip of for the Karl Taylor Cup quarter finals.
Good intensity on defence saw the BLIZZARDS just trail at the first buzzer 12-11. They kept fighting but the ball wasn’t finding the hoop and the Cobras took a comfortable 36-24 lead at the half, quickly increased two minutes into the next half with a 7-0 to a 19point lead 48-29.
This was the wake up call as Szymon Wawrzyniak started to find his range on the three point line 52-49 then 55-50, with the BLIZZARDS finishing off the quarter with a 6-0 to close the gap to a single basket 58-56.
The locals hitting threes early in the last quarter keeping them ahead 64-60, but intensity, even though all five were tiring, and a never say die attitude kept them close 74-71 with two minutes left to play, but two late threes was too much and the BLIZZARDS finally were beat after a monumental effort by all five.
Final score 80-73
Great performance, shame and desperately unlucky not to upset the odds in the second half.
Team:
Szymon Wawrzyniak 24pts
Sam Robinson 18pts
Nathan Oyet 17pts
Chris Mullan 10pts
Sen Sundaravadanan 4pts
