Aaron Farmer top scores as Harriers win it after a flying start

19 Feb 2019 by Marcel Mavronicholas

Playing the Div 2 leaders Woodley Harriers away was never going to be easy. A slow start by both teams saw a 4-4 score after nearly five minutes, but the rest of the quarter was all the Harriers 16-0, to make it 20-4. The second quarter started with the BLIZZARDS changing their defence to a zone and after a few steals it was their offence that had improved drastically with Jack Bond hitting a three Tom Mavronicholas getting in the points and on the three minute mark it was 20-10, two minutes later after Ben Firrell had also netting his three and the gap had closed to 7pts 26-19, but the Harriers responded well and were still in control at the HT buzzer 38-26.
The half time had put the Blizzards back to sleep and never responded to the Harriers No20’s three consecutive baskets including two threes 46-26 early in the third quarter.
With the BLIZZARDS regular point guard not being available young Aaron Farmer (U17) was to make his second appearance with a senior team, not lacking confidence he quickly hit consecutive threes himself 47-32, he was playing with composure and amassing points, unfortunately it wasn’t enough as the Harriers were making the difference with fast breaks 60-40 with ten to play. The last quarter saw yet another three from Aaron Farmer, Steven Murtagh and Taylor Dawson were adding to their tally,
but the game was lost in the last five minutes of the first quarter and even though the BLIZZARDS won another quarter, after having won the second, they never really threatened the Harriers.
Great effort by Aaron Farmer as he finished up top scorer on 13pts for only just over ten minutes court time.
