WEEKEND RESULTS

18 Dec 2017 by Marcel Mavronicholas

Full weekend of activities with the Juniors starting of on Friday evening.
Good win by the U14’s against Yateley Silverbacks 42-22. After a tight first quarter 7-6 they quickly drew clear and were never in danger of losing. A much improved performance with Kirk Aquino top scoring (10pts) now shooting from his comfort range and getting his fair share of rebounds, JJ Tauro (9pts) rebounds and assists, Michael also getting his share 6pts and a stack of steals assists and boards. The best assist going to Ko Stephens in the last quarter with a great pass to Michael that had made an equally good cut, another solid performance from Mattie Hamilton and Ben Clash hitting his first points and another strong performance by our U12 Elliott Heyburn up an age group always wiling to play.
Good effort by the boys.
The U16’s struggled against top of the table Waverley Wolfpack, with a few players missing, good help by our youngsters Mattie Hamilton & Michael Dahlen (U14’s) and Elliott Heyburn (U12’s) playing his first game in with U16’s making his presence felt with a buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter. As a whole they struggled after a tight first quarter 9-12, they soon fell behind and team work started to disappear as players tried to make the difference individually and failed. But they were soon back at Wellington College with a much better effort and a lot more team work for Eleanor’s fun holiday Tournament with five straight impressive wins against Bracknell and Farnborough to win the day.
With the tournament final only just over it was off to Yateley, 3 miles up the road for a Div1 game, unfortunately the team was decimated. Injuries, work, Christmas parties and alcohol abuse from the previous night out being all to blame. So a big thanks to our three U17’s that showed up to help out and only 3 regular Div1 players present. It was a bad loss 97-38 but never the less and very good performance by very young team with a massive height disadvantage. The lads doing really well in the first quarter, only 21-15 down before being bullied out of it by Yateley giants (4 players over 6foot8). A really good defensive effort by David Blackburn, Andreas Antoniou, Jouvan Johnson and Stuart Elliott to compete for boards and good first venture in to Div1 by Ben Firrell and Taylor Dawson both getting their share of points. Also thumbs up for Chris Mullan who had a good game trying to orchestrate the team and not really getting his share of calls from the boys in grey.
Team:
Chris Mullan 10pts, Taylor Dawson 8pts, Jouvan Johnson 6pts, Ben Firrell 6pts, David Blackburn 5pts, Ben Drury 3pts, Andreas Antoniou, Stuart Elliott.
